When I was finally allowed to fly to campus during my second semester, I applied to be a Resident Assistant. I did not get the job, instead they offered me the position of an alternate RA, which meant that I would have to take over the role of an RA if one were to ever drop out. I naturally accepted it because something was still better than nothing in my head. A month before spring semester started, I spoke to a girl and we decided to room together. However, a week before the semester started, I was asked if I could take up the role of an RA because someone dropped out, but to do so, I would have to give up my current housing arrangement. Since this was a very last minute decision, they also could not assign me a new roommate which meant I had to live by myself in a dorm that was supposed to be occupied by 4 students.
It was always hauntingly quiet.
